Beer based Filament

6 1,078

The filament maker 3Dom USA has released a new interesting filament for 3D printers called Buzzed – a beer based 3D printing filament made using waste byproducts from the beer making process. Buzzed uses those beer left-overs to create a special 3D printing material with visibly unique print finishes. The filament produces products with a rich golden color and a noticeable natural grain and it can be printed on any machine capable of printing with PLA using standard PLA settings.

Buzzed Recommended Print Settings:

Buzzed should print at 180-210 C. In general, a good starting point is 10 degrees cooler than you typically print PLA. A heated bed is not necessary, though if you have one, you should set it to 45 C. The recommended print speed is between 60 – 120 mm/s.

The 3DOM Buzzed 3D printer filament is available in 1 kilograms pools with a diameter of 1.75mm as well as 2.85mm, so it should be widely compatible with most 3D printers. The price of a single 1 kilogram spool of the Buzzed 3D printer filament is $49 USD.

It’s nice to see recycling being put to some use. Three dimensional printers are certainly making their mark. I just hope we can advance to the point of pushing a button for a meal or any other desirable molecular composition. Based on what I have seen, most three dimensional printers only take one type of substance as input. I’d like to be able to dump in various elements from the periodic table and then construct them into something of greater value. Another nice feature would be some kind of replication device. If I have any type of object, I’d like to scan it, and have an exact duplicate made. This could come in very handy. $49 per kilogram seems a bit steep. Is this a typical price for three dimensional printer filament? Also, if you’ve seen a three dimensional printer that takes heterogeneous inputs, I’d be interested. Thanks for this post.

Wow, Thank you for your input i appreciate it! I added a filament review that costs less then half and is way more durable. when it comes to replication i will do a post on desktop 3d scanners soon. 😉 Not exactly the replicator you had in mind i guess but still its as close as you get. 😀

I realize the age of this post means it will likely never be seen. That being said, I continue to discover new things about 3D printing that amaze me every day.

I’m very curious about that filament, between that one, the aromatic coffee and the cinnamon, which I think is from another brand, the beer one has the best looking color, I have no idea how it smells, but cinnamon it’s hard to beat in that aspect.
That beer stein would look awesome with a couple of bronzefill rings around it.
