Kelant Orbeat D100 Resin 3D Printer First Impressions
Two machines have been taking up a lot of my time recently. My Glowforge laser cutter is the first, my brand new resin printer is the second.
Both have been causing a lot of questions from my social media followers but for different reasons.
I have had my Kelant Orbeat D100 for a few weeks so it is time to give some first impressions.
Kelant Orbeat D100 – Resin Printer for the Masses?
Resin printers are famed for producing super high resolution prints, but when you look at options such as the Form 2, the cost is out of reach for many of us.
Lately there have been new printers arriving that aim to take the best (high resolution) and fix the worst (hard to level, expensive).
Kelant Orbeat D100 was one that seemed to actually deliver. Seeing friend’s prints, and apparent ease of use, tipped me over into buying one.
Purchasing Unboxing the D100
This is the shocking part. The printer can be bought for $329.
That’s … amazing.
It’s a quarter of the price of the similarly specced Prusa SLA printer, even if you buy the kit version of the Prusa.
Purchase the Kelant Orbeat D100 from Aliexpress. Mine arrived very quickly, within a week of ordering. The printer is purchased directly from the manufacturer so you don’t have to worry about resellers and such.
No, I don’t have an affiliate code, but Alex says if you heard about the printer from me that he will throw in an extra sheet of FEP film!
Using the D100
I was a bit afraid of venturing into resin printing but the Kelant Orbeat D100 is easier to use than I feared.
Yes, you still have to contend with resin, but that is unavoidable.
Where the D100 is better than most resin printers is the leveling of the bed is very simple, which is important because a good level is vital.
Everything is push-button easy and the prints are run off the included USB memory stick.
Print Quality
So far the print quality has been outstanding.
It’s still new to me, both the printer and printing with resin at all (at least solo), but even I have managed to print some things that evoked a “wow”.
Bottom Line
So far I am super impressed.
OK, so it hasn’t been all smooth sailing (as you can see in the videos, I had to learn some things, a couple of things I could have read in the manual …), but the results are excellent and the price to value can not be beaten.
Of course I will follow up with a full review once I have really put it through it’s paces!
