Researchers Miko Cakmak, Bryan D. Vogt and others have been exploring whether 3D printing Filament could be changed to reinforce parts.
These researchers have designed a core-shell filament. Their idea was to produce a filament with a polycarbonate core not They termed it the olefin ionomer shell, and it surrounded the polycarbonate core. It added support and reinforced the 3D-printed part. When tested, these parts could withstand numerous impacts cracking, which other parts would never withstand.
