UNYQ, a San Francisco-based company specializing in 3D printed medical wearables, unveiled their very first 3D printed prosthetic leg socket during the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO) annual conference celebrated in Harrogate, UK.

The product, named UNYQ Socket, complements UNYQ’s 3D printed prosthetic covers, which have built-in sensors for monitoring the wearer’s activity. For instance, the number of steps, cardio and calories burnt. As a result, doctors will be able to control parameters like the physical shape of the patient and adapt the prosthesis according to their idividual needs.

“THIS IS ANOTHER STEP FORWARD IN BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE AMPUTEES WITH A TOTAL LEG SOLUTION. A SOLUTION WHERE IT’S PRACTICALLY ONE COMPONENT, RATHER THAN A MISH MASH OF DIFFERENT ELEMENTS BOLTED TOGETHER. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO FURTHER DEVELOP OUR PROSTHETICS WEAR LINE, AS WELL AS THE OTHER EXCITING MEDICAL WEARABLES IN OUR PIPELINE, TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR END USERS.”

Manual Boza, Co-Founder and VP of Prosthetics at UNYQ.
The company expects to supply with 3D printed leg sockets to multiple clinics by the end of 2019. You can find more information on UNYQ’s website.

The UNYQ Socket is already available for the public with an average delivery time of three weeks. The firm estimates that its 3D printed device will be compatible in over 50 countries around the world.
