By creating an automated digital colour workflow that uses 3MF and the J5 DentaJet system to go from 3D scan to 3D print.
A new automated colour 3D printing workflow utilizing 3Shape’s Dental System software and the Stratasys J5 DentaJet 3D printer is being introduced by Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) and intraoral 3D scanner expert 3Shape.
Dental labs can record the colour and geometric details of the patient’s mouth using an intraoral scanner and the 3Shape software.
After importing the information, users of Stratasys’ 3D printer can print highly accurate, customized, full-colour dental models.
According to Rune Fisker,
Senior Vice President for Product Strategy at 3Shape,
“accurately matching tooth colour, in particular, is tricky and time-consuming.”
In dentistry, careful attention to aesthetics is essential. “Using 3Shape and the J5 DentaJet printer, we are automating that entire workflow for customers for the first time.
Dental labs will be able to easily take advantage of all the features offered by the only dental printer that can produce incredibly accurate replicas of a patient’s mouth from a TRIOS scan.
By printing numerous mixed batches of dental parts simultaneously on the same tray, including implant models,
surgical guides, and gingiva masks,
the J5 DentaJet 3D printer enables dental professionals to scale production.
For these printed dental applications, geometric accuracy and precision are guaranteed by PolyJetTM technology, which is also renowned for its full-colour printing abilities,
including lifelike monolithic full-colour dental parts.
A Streamlined Workflow
Users can fully utilize these combined capabilities thanks to the unique new digital workflow provided by 3Shape. Best-in-class workflow and seamless communication between dental practices and dental labs are provided by 3Shape Dental System.
The open 3MF file standard is now supported by the most recent software version 2022.1,
which allows for the capture of both geometry and colour data from intraoral scans.
“Color matching with the rest of a patient’s teeth is a real challenge due to the darker colour of a tooth stump and the translucency of a crown,”
said Ron Ellenbogen, Director of Dental Products at Stratasys.
“By integrating 3MF support into the 3Shape Dental System,
our customer can take advantage of the colour capabilities of Stratasys PolyJet 3D printers to accurately match the true colour of a restoration. The J5 DentaJet platform’s ability to support more colour applications will benefit from the introduction of this new turnkey colour workflow.
3MF Consortium
The 3MF Consortium,
of which Stratasys is a key participant,
publishes the 3MF open-source file format, which is becoming more and more well-known.
The format enhances workflow because it contains all model data in one package, including metadata and voxel-level interior control.
Only Stratasys offers a PANTONE-ValidatedTM full-color, a multi-material 3D printer that can fully utilize the advantages of the 3MF format.
